Meal Prepping and Mason Jars-Episode 3
The Benefits of oatmeal.
Did you know that oatmeal actually will help you with your cholesterol and heart health? Not to mention what it does for your regularity if you know what I mean. Well I know that our family loves oatmeal in lots of different ways and in my video I demonstrated just a few of the favorites.
Steel cut oats are my favorite and I like to get them from amazon.com They are more easily digested and I just love the nutty flavor of the oats. I love to add almond butter and my cashew milk after I have cooked it for a protein packed meal. There are other ways you can enjoy oats and that is Overnight Oats. http://www.quakeroats.com/cooking-and-recipes/overnightoats. There are a ton of varieties here, and for you busy mom’s this would be a great way to provide your family with a good nutritious meal in the morning. So easy, the kids can just eat it cold or warm up in the microwave.
Getting ahead on the week!
While my oats are cooking during meal prep time, I like to prepare a few more things for the week. Anything that I am cooking that requires ground beef or turkey, I go ahead and cook it up in the skillet and season it if the recipe calls for it. Or if I don’t know what I am going to use it for quite yet, just leave it plain. Once it’s cooled off, I place it in a Mason jar or Zip Lock bag and place it in the freezer for later in the week.
If there is a recipe that I am doing that will call for chopped vegetables, I chop them up and place in a mason jar or ziplock bag and place in the fridge. This week I had a recipe that called for butterflied chicken breast so I went ahead and prepared them for the recipe and placed into a ziplock and into the freezer. This will save me time at the end of a busy day to get dinner ready in a hurry. Pre-slicing your steak or chicken for stir fry is another time saving idea.
Whatever I can do to make my weeknights easier for myself and my family I have to take the time on Sunday and do it. Too many times in the past did we turn to take out and this becomes costly and unhealthy in the long run.
I hope this has been helpful to get your family started on the right foot for healthy and easy prepped meals.
